The aims and objectives of this publication are to:
- Raise the public’s awareness of the issue of environmental weeds and reduce the weed management burden imposed upon taxpayers, conservation volunteers and the natural environment.
- Highlight the inappropriateness of potentially invasive plants that displace unique and iconic Australian native flora.
- Assist gardeners in making local native species their first choice, instead of accepting plants from thousands of kilometres away; thus demonstrating a pride in the unique plants endemic to their region.
- Stimulate increased interest in the selective breeding of the listed alternatives and other native species so that future generations of gardeners can enjoy significantly more Australian native plants.
